05/28/2020 – Ridgeline Above McHugh Creek

Anne Ver Hoef will lead "Ridgeline Above McHugh Creek" with a duration of 2.5 hours somewwhere in Turnagain Arm.

Starting at 6:30pm from the McHugh (upper) parking lot, we will start up the trail toward McHugh lake but then divert up to the ridgeline at a strategic location.  We will pick our way along the ridgeline until we drop back down to the trail at an advantageous spot. Return on the trail for a lollypop route.

05/21/2020 – Bird Flew

Lee Helzer will lead "Bird Flew" with a duration of 3 hours somewwhere in Turnagain Arm.

Update

The Highway will be closed from 10pm to 5am in Indian.  We will keep the pace up to ensure we are back at the car by 9:30pm.

Meet at 6:30 p.m. at the Bird Ridge trailhead (the rock quarry mega-lot).  We will follow Bird Creek to the falls, then we will select a suitable ascent route to the top of Bird Ridge.  We will return by the standard route.

05/14/2020 – Botanical Recon

Rob DeVelice will lead "Botanical Recon" with a duration of 2 hours somewwhere in Turnagain Arm.

Meet at 6:30 pm in the Windy Corner parking area on the Seward Highway. We will begin on the Turnagain Arm Trail for a couple of kilometers and then diverge upslope via scramble and bushwack towards Sheep Thrills Ridge botanizing along the way. We will return after about one hour by the same route.

05/07/2020 – Rays on Rainbow

Jesse Gobeli will lead "Rays on Rainbow" with a duration of 3 hours somewwhere in Turnagain Arm.

Meet at 6:30 p.m. at the Telephone Pole Rock parking area just south of Beluga Point on the Seward Highway.  We will follow trails until we ascend the north face of Rainbow Peak.  We will return by the standard route.

04/30/2020 – Potter to McHugh, Maybe

Anne Ver Hoef will lead "Potter to McHugh, Maybe" with a duration of 2.5 hours somewwhere in Turnagain Arm.

This out and back route will attempt to get on the ridge to McHugh from Potter Valley Rd. Meet at 6:30 in the dirt pull-out area shortly after Potter Valley Road becomes gravel (turn left to cont. on Potter Valley Rd and not SouthPointe Rd). Approx 2.5 hours, some bush bashing required to avoid private property.

04/16/2020 – Hole-in-the-Wall

Jesse Gobeli will lead "Hole-in-the-Wall" with a duration of 3.5 hours somewwhere in Turnagain Arm.

Meet at 6:30 p.m. at the Rainbow trailhead.  We will take the east ridge of Rainbow, and then head towards Hole in the Wall.  We will return by a circuitous route.

04/09/2020 – Potter Overlook

E. Marquez will lead "Potter Overlook" with a duration of 3.5 hours somewwhere in Turnagain Arm.

Meet at 6:30 p.m. at the Weigh Station on the Seward Highway just south of Potter Marsh.  We will diverge from the Turnagain Arm trail after a mile or so and head straight up to Potter Overlook.   We will return via a different route.

04/02/2020 – Caballo Blanco

Jesse Gobeli will lead "Caballo Blanco" with a duration of 3.5 hours somewwhere in Turnagain Arm.

Meet at 6:30 p.m. at the gravel parking area just past McHugh Creek.   We will follow game trails as we ascend and eventually top out on Caballo Blanco.   We will return by the scree field to the main trail.

03/19/2020 – Bird Creek 20K

Jesse Gobeli will lead "Bird Creek 20K" with a duration of 4 hours somewwhere in Turnagain Arm.

It is time for the Annual Bird Creek 20K!  Meet at 6:30 p.m. at the Bird Creek trailhead at the end of Konikson Road.   Participants will be delighted by cold temperatures and pillowy snow as we work our way over the gently rolling terrain past the ford site and back.  An excellent postholing workout!  The first six finishers will receive a prize.

12/05/2019 – Long and Winding Road

Jesse Gobeli will lead "Long and Winding Road" with a duration of 3.5 hours somewwhere in Turnagain Arm.

Meet at 6:30 p.m. at the Weigh Station south of Potter Marsh.  We will run to Rainbow and back on the Turnagain Arm Trail.   This is the same route that we ran last year just hours before the M7.1 earthquake dislodged massive boulders from the slopes above and onto the trail.

09/26/2019 – Rays on Rainbow

Lee Helzer will lead "Rays on Rainbow" with a duration of 3.5 hours somewwhere in Turnagain Arm.

Meet at 6:30 in the Telephone Pole Rock parking area (on the left after Beluga Point) on the Seward Highway. We will head up to the Turnagain Arm Trail and then diverge onto a ridge heading towards the Black Mesa. From there we will continue up the North Face of Rainbow Peak (hopefully) enjoying a beautiful sunset along the way.  Micro spikes may be needed.

From the summit we will take the standard route back to the Turnagain Arm Trail and return to the cars. There are out and back opportunities for those not desiring partaking in the full enchilada.
