08/14/2025 – California Tarn Redo

Lee Helzer will lead "California Tarn Redo" with a duration of 4 hours somewwhere in The Chugach Front Range.

Meet at the California Creek trailhead on Crow Creek Road
next to California Creek for a 6:30 departure.  We will head up California Creek trail and make another attempt at getting to the tarn at the head of California Creek below Raggedtop Mountain.  Expect significant bushwhacking, a headlight is advisable.  If raining we may take an alternate route to Gentoo Peak to avoid the carwash.

08/07/2025 – Old Stump Road

Jesse Gobeli will lead "Old Stump Road" with a duration of 4 hours somewwhere in Turnagain Arm.

Meet at 6:30 p.m. at the Konikson Road trailhead in Bird Valley. We will head up the main trail past the bridge over Penguin Creek, then we will detour into the forest, cross Penguin Creek and the old stump road, and ascend through hemlock forests to the northwest ridge that leads to Penguin Peak. We will return by the Penguin Peak standard trail.

07/31/2025 – Hole in the wall

Lee Helzer will lead "Hole in the wall" with a duration of 4 hours somewwhere in The Chugach Front Range.

Meet at the Rainbow trailhead for a 6:30 departure.  We will ascend the Rainbow ridge to Hole in the Wall via  sheep trails and return by trails that may or may not exist.

06/26/2025 – O’Malley’s (not so) White Shoulder

Josh A. will lead "O'Malley's (not so) White Shoulder" with a duration of 4 hours somewwhere in The Chugach Front Range.

Meet at 6:30 p.m. at the Glen Alps trailhead. We will head up to the ballfield and ascend the shoulder of O’Malley. We will descend down to the hidden lake area and pay a visit to hidden lake. We will return by way of the standard trails.

06/19/2025 – The Wedge

E. Marquez will lead "The Wedge" with a duration of 4 hours somewwhere in The Chugach Front Range.

Meet at 6:30 p.m. at the Glen Alps trailhead. We will take the main trail to the Hidden Lake turnoff to the ridge. From there we will cross the creek and ascend the ridge to the east leading directly to the Wedge. We will take a left at the summit of the Wedge and take the main trail back.

06/05/2025 – South Ridge South Sui

E. Marquez will lead "South Ridge South Sui" with a duration of 4 hours somewwhere in Turnagain Arm.

Meet at 6:30 p.m. at the Falls Creek trailhead. We will take the Sheep Thrills route up and along the ridge towards South Suicide. Somewhere on the ridge we will choose a point of descent to the Falls Creek valley and return.

05/29/2025 – Bird Flew Plus

E. Marquez will lead "Bird Flew Plus" with a duration of 4 hours somewwhere in Turnagain Arm.

Meet at 6:30 p.m. at the Bird Ridge trailhead (the small original lot). We will head into the Valley before turning uphill to ascend directly to the Bird Ridge high point. For the return, we plan to divert directly down to the Indian Valley trail. From Indian Valley, we will follow the powerline back to the start.

05/22/2025 – Wolverine Ridge Exploration

Lee Helzer will lead "Wolverine Ridge Exploration" with a duration of 4 hours somewwhere in The Chugach Front Range.

Meet for a 6:30 departure at the Glen Alps trailhead.  We will head out to Williwaw Lakes Trail then ascend Wolverine Peak via the south.  From the top we will follow the ridge back as long as time allows and return via Williwaw Lakes trail.

05/08/2025 – Epic 508

Jesse Gobeli will lead "Epic 508" with a duration of 4 hours somewwhere in Turnagain Arm.

Meet at 6:30 p.m. at the McHugh Creek trailhead. We will take the main trail up valley for about 1.5 miles. At elevation 1400 feet, we will leave the trail to ascend a previously unexplored ridge. Scrambling opportunities abound as we work our way through cliffs and boulders to a windswept alpine plateau at 3500 feet. Another 700 feet of ascent will round out the climbing for the evening, followed by a blistering 1800 foot descent to the main trail and a 3.5 mile jog back to the trailhead.

04/24/2025 – Rays on Rainbow

Lee Helzer will lead "Rays on Rainbow" with a duration of 4 hours somewwhere in The Chugach Front Range.

Meet at 6:30 in the Telephone Pole Rock parking area (on the left after Beluga Point) on the Seward Highway. We will head up to the Turnagain Arm Trail and then diverge onto a ridge heading towards the Black Mesa. From there we will asses snow conditions and either continue up the North Face or the south west ridge of Rainbow Peak (hopefully) enjoying a beautiful sunset along the way.  Ice axe and micro spikes recommended.

From the summit we will take the standard route back to the Turnagain Arm Trail and return to the cars. There are out and back opportunities for those not desiring partaking in the full enchilada.

02/06/2025 – Bird Creek 20K

Jesse Gobeli will lead "Bird Creek 20K" with a duration of 4 hours somewwhere in Turnagain Arm.

The route is in and conditions are right for the Bird Creek 20K! Low snow and frozen temps make for a fast route this year. Meet at 6:30 p.m. at the Bird Creek trailhead at the end of Konikson Rd. We will journey to the ford site and beyond to a suitable turnaround point on this out and back route.

09/19/2024 – Sixmile Creek

Lee Helzer will lead "Sixmile Creek" with a duration of 4 hours somewwhere in Peters Creek.

Meet at the Peters Creek Trailhead for a 6:30 departure.  We will head out the Peters Creek trail.  Just after Fourmile Creek we will head up the ridge and follow it until after Sixmile creek and descend south for the return.
