05/17/2018 – McHugh Peak

Lee Helzer will lead "McHugh Peak" with a duration of 3.5 hours somewwhere in The Chugach Front Range.

Meet at 6:15 p.m. at the corner of Upper De Armoun road and Canyon road.  We will carpool to the trailhead for a 6:30 start.  We’ll take the local trails along Rabbit Creek and ascend the north east flank of McHugh Peak.  We will return via the same route or an alternate path back to rabbit lakes trail.

04/05/2018 – Bermuda Triangle

Lee Helzer will lead "Bermuda Triangle" with a duration of 3 hours somewwhere in Turnagain Arm.

Meet for a 6:30 departure at the small Bermuda Triangle pull-out 4.3 miles south of the weigh station on the mountain side of the highway just before Beluga point.  If no parking is available park at Beluga Point.  We’ll take the Turnagain trail for a bit before heading up the ridge.  Expect bushwhacking.

02/15/2018 – Wait, Aren’t we Supposed to Take a Left?

Lee Helzer will lead "Wait, Aren't we Supposed to Take a Left?" with a duration of 3 hours somewwhere in East Anchorage.

Meet at the Hillside parking lot for a 6:30 departure.  We’ll follow the Gasline trail toward South Bivouac, the head up the Powerline trail with an interesting river crossing and return via the Gasline.

12/28/2017 – Gimping Along

Lee Helzer will lead "Gimping Along" with a duration of 2 hours somewwhere in West Anchorage.

Meet in the Jodhpure parking lot of Kincaid park for an easy ramble along well established trails.  The running pace will be slow and bikes are a good alternative if you don’t feel like running.

12/07/2017 – Seventeenth Anniversary

Lee Helzer will lead "Seventeenth Anniversary" with a duration of 1 hour somewwhere in West Anchorage.

Join in this seventeenth anniversary Epic.

Meet at 6:30 pm in the parking area of the Anchorage wastewater treatment facility (the next right after passing the Point Woronzof turnoff). We will complete a one-hour run-walk loop along the beach and return via the Coastal Trail.

After the outing, those so desiring will head to The Rustic Goat (2800 Turnagain Street) for dinner, beverages, and conversation.

11/16/2017 – You Are Not Forgotten

Lee Helzer will lead "You Are Not Forgotten" with a duration of 3 hours somewwhere in Eklutna.

Jesse and Eliseo will lead on my behalf.

Meet at 6:15pm in the parking area at the start of Eklutna Lake road.  Due to limited space we will carpool to a 3 car gravel pullout at about mile 4.5 on Eklutna Lake Road by electric pole 74.  We will then hike up the road to electric pole 85 where we will depart the road and head up to the monument, pay homage, and return.  Micro-spikes recommended.    Please allow extra time for traffic delays.

10/26/2017 – The Long Road to Recovery

Lee Helzer will lead "The Long Road to Recovery" with a duration of 3 hours somewwhere in The Chugach Front Range.

At 6:30 we will depart from Upper O’Malley trailhead by Shebanof Ave. and Stroganof Dr.

This will be my first Epic back and longest hike to date after my knee injury.  The first half of the Epic will be a slow and cautious walk up the Gasline trail linking to the Powerline trail via the Hemlock Knob trail.  Once we reach the Glen Alps cut off, I will depart as my knee currently only allows for uphill travel.

Those remaining will step up the pace and jog the Middle Fork trail to a weather/participant dependent creek crossing and exciting bushwhack back to the Rim trail.  A series of trails will link runners back to the Upper O’Malley trailhead.

09/28/2017 – Rendezvous Ridge

Lee Helzer will lead "Rendezvous Ridge" with a duration of 3 hours somewwhere in JBER.

Meet at 6:30 pm in the pull out just before the parking lot at the end of Arctic Valley Road. Jesse and Eliseo will lead on Lee’s behalf up Rendezvous Peak then take the ridge back to berry picking if the local critters haven’t got them all.  After our mouths are blue and bellies full we’ll descend towards Ship Creek and catch a trail maintained by the local moose and bear population.

06/08/2017 – Sheep Thrills Plus

Lee Helzer will lead "Sheep Thrills Plus" with a duration of 4 hours somewwhere in Turnagain Arm.

Meet at 6:30 pm at the Falls Creek trailhead on the Seward Highway. We will proceed up the Sheep Thrills Ridge via bushwhacking and scrambling to the highpoint known as Peak 3980. We will find a logical point of descent to the Falls Creek Trail and the return via the trailhead. Depending on presence and abundance of snow, traction devices may be desirable.
