07/28/2022 – Goose Lake Trot

Lee Helzer will lead "Goose Lake Trot" with a duration of 1.5 hours somewwhere in East Anchorage.

Meet in the Goose Lake Park parking lot for a 6:30 departure.  This kid friendly epic will attempt to circumnavigate Goose Lake with an option to swim or standup paddle board upon successful completion of the route.

07/14/2022 – Eklutna River Exploration

Lee Helzer will lead "Eklutna River Exploration" with a duration of 3 hours somewwhere in Eklutna.

Meet in the medium pullout on the left (north) side of Eklutna Lake Road at around mile 2.4 (just past the Ernie Turner Center) at 6:15 for a car shuttle to the Eklutna Lake Trailhead.  We will tour the Eklutna River and exit to our car.

06/09/2022 – Rainbow Circumnavigation

Lee Helzer will lead "Rainbow Circumnavigation" with a duration of 4 hours somewwhere in Turnagain Arm.

Meet in the lower lot of McHugh for a 6:30 departure.  We will head up McHugh Lake trail keeping an eye out for lakes to swim in when the heat waves return.  At a low saddle we will hop over into the Rainbow Valley and return via sheep trails and eventually the Turnagain Arm trail.

05/05/2022 – McHugh Treadmill

Lee Helzer will lead "McHugh Treadmill" with a duration of 3.5 hours somewwhere in Turnagain Arm.

Meet for a 6:30 departure in the lower lot of McHugh Trailhead.  We will head up McHugh Lake trail and take the McHugh Peak treadmill.  After summitting we’ll search for a gully with epic glissade potential then return via the McHugh Lake trail.

Ice axe, micro spike, and gloves recommended.

04/28/2022 – Caballo Blanco

Lee Helzer will lead "Caballo Blanco" with a duration of 3.5 hours somewwhere in Turnagain Arm.

Meet in the lower parking lot of the McHugh trailhead for a 6:30 departure.  We will head toward the standard trail up McHugh and assess snow conditions on the final route up Caballo Blanco.  We’ll ideally return via some fun glissades.  Ice axe and micro spikes recommended.

04/07/2022 – Rays on Rainbow

Lee Helzer will lead "Rays on Rainbow" with a duration of 3.5 hours somewwhere in Turnagain Arm.

Meet at 6:30 in the Telephone Pole Rock parking area (on the left after Beluga Point) on the Seward Highway. We will head up to the Turnagain Arm Trail and then diverge onto a ridge heading towards the Black Mesa. From there we will continue with ice ax and micro spikes up the North Face of Rainbow Peak (hopefully) enjoying a beautiful sunset along the way.

From the summit we will take the standard route back to the Turnagain Arm Trail and return to the cars. There are out and back opportunities for those not desiring partaking in the full enchilada.

 

03/24/2022 – Black Mesa

Lee Helzer will lead "Black Mesa" with a duration of 3.5 hours somewwhere in Turnagain Arm.

Meet for a 6:30 pm departure in the Telephone Pole Rock parking area (on the left
just after Beluga Point on the Seward Highway.  We will follow the Turnagain Arm Trail a short way west, then proceed bush whack up until arriving at an obscure ridge heading towards the “Black Mesa”.  We will ascend that ridge to a presently undetermined turn around point.

03/10/2022 – Eagle River

Lee Helzer will lead "Eagle River" with a duration of 4 hours somewwhere in Eagle River - South.

Meet at the Eagle River Greenbelt day use area just south of Eagle River before the Briggs Bridge off Eagle River Loop Road for a 6:30 departure.  We will adventure upstream and if conditions are ideal will continue to where the river meets Eagle River Road for a point A to B route.  Trail reports show open water, but are unclear how far the packed tail will be.  If conditions are unfavorable we will return via the Lower Eagle River Trail.

Expect wet feet.

02/17/2022 – A Little Snow Turtling

Lee Helzer will lead "A Little Snow Turtling" with a duration of 3 hours somewwhere in East Anchorage.

Meet for a 6:30 departure from the sewage plant parking area just beyond the Point Woronzof parking lot.  We will try to avoid the deep snow and slippery roads heading to higher trailheads.  We’ll tour the muddy coast and return via snowy trails.
