10/20/2022 – Bird Creek Jaunt

Lee Helzer will lead "Bird Creek Jaunt" with a duration of 3.5 hours somewwhere in Turnagain Arm.

Meet for a 6:30 departure from the Bird Valley Trailhead at the end of Konikson Rd.  We will head out the Bird Valley trail to a possible river ford then return via nearly the same route.

08/18/2022 – Old Stump Road

Jesse Gobeli will lead "Old Stump Road" with a duration of 3 hours somewwhere in Turnagain Arm.

Meet at 6:30 p.m. at the Bird Creek trailhead at the end of Konikson Road. We will take the main trail almost to the bridge, where we will bushwack along the Old Stump Roads before heading directly to the shoulder of Penguin Peak. We will descend by the standard Penguin Peak trail.

08/04/2022 – Upper Highway Route

Jesse Gobeli will lead "Upper Highway Route" with a duration of 3 hours somewwhere in Turnagain Arm.

Meet at 6:30 p.m. at the Rainbow trailhead.   We will be taking the Upper Highway route to the summit ridge directly above the trailhead.   Bring a favorite item of pruning equipment, trail repairs will be made along the way.   We may explore some additional bushwhacking opportunities on the way up or down.

06/30/2022 – Sweat Lodge

E. Marquez will lead "Sweat Lodge" with a duration of 3 hours somewwhere in Turnagain Arm.

Meet at 6:30 p.m. at the Falls Creek trailhead. We will follow the old Johnson trail for a mile or two, before heading uphill towards the Indianhouse Ridge. We will cross over a pass, into the Falls Creek valley to complete a circle route.

06/09/2022 – Rainbow Circumnavigation

Lee Helzer will lead "Rainbow Circumnavigation" with a duration of 4 hours somewwhere in Turnagain Arm.

Meet in the lower lot of McHugh for a 6:30 departure.  We will head up McHugh Lake trail keeping an eye out for lakes to swim in when the heat waves return.  At a low saddle we will hop over into the Rainbow Valley and return via sheep trails and eventually the Turnagain Arm trail.

06/02/2022 – Short Memory

Jesse Gobeli will lead "Short Memory" with a duration of 3.5 hours somewwhere in Turnagain Arm.

Meet at 6:15 p.m. at the Indian trailhead at the end of Boretide Road (Note earlier time).  We will carpool to the Bird Ridge trailhead (small lot) for a 6:30 p.m. start.  We will proceed up the standard route to the high point. From there, we will glissade, posthole, and bushwack directly back to the Indian trailhead.

(N.B.:  This is a reverse attempt of the “Workshop of Horrors” route, abandoned and sworn off in 2019.  The memories of the original participants have softened, facilitating this current attempt, albeit with some lingering trepidation…)

05/26/2022 – Bird Flew (Redux)

E. Marquez will lead "Bird Flew (Redux)" with a duration of 3.5 hours somewwhere in Turnagain Arm.

Meet at 6:30 p.m. at the Bird Ridge trailhead (the rock quarry mega-lot). We will attempt the ACTUAL “bird flew” route. We will follow Bird Creek to the falls, then we will select a suitable ascent route to the top of Bird Ridge. We will return by the standard route.

05/19/2022 – Bird Flew

Meet at 6:30 p.m. at the Bird Ridge trailhead (the rock quarry mega-lot). We will follow Bird Creek to the falls, then we will select a suitable ascent route to the top of Bird Ridge. We will return by the standard route.

05/05/2022 – McHugh Treadmill

Lee Helzer will lead "McHugh Treadmill" with a duration of 3.5 hours somewwhere in Turnagain Arm.

Meet for a 6:30 departure in the lower lot of McHugh Trailhead.  We will head up McHugh Lake trail and take the McHugh Peak treadmill.  After summitting we’ll search for a gully with epic glissade potential then return via the McHugh Lake trail.

Ice axe, micro spike, and gloves recommended.

04/28/2022 – Caballo Blanco

Lee Helzer will lead "Caballo Blanco" with a duration of 3.5 hours somewwhere in Turnagain Arm.

Meet in the lower parking lot of the McHugh trailhead for a 6:30 departure.  We will head toward the standard trail up McHugh and assess snow conditions on the final route up Caballo Blanco.  We’ll ideally return via some fun glissades.  Ice axe and micro spikes recommended.
