07/27/2017 – Old Stump Road

Jesse Gobeli will lead "Old Stump Road" with a duration of 4.5 hours somewwhere in Turnagain Arm.

Meet at 6:30 p.m. at the Konikson Road trailhead in Bird Valley.  We will head up the main trail past the bridge over Penguin Creek, then we will detour into the forest, cross Penguin Creek and the old stump road, and ascend through hemlock forests towards Penguin Peak.

06/29/2017 – Homicide

Jesse Gobeli will lead "Homicide" with a duration of 4 hours somewwhere in Turnagain Arm.

Meet at 6:30 p.m. at the Indian Trailhead at the end of Boretide road.  We will follow the powerline trail, ascend Homicide Peak and return.

06/08/2017 – Sheep Thrills Plus

Lee Helzer will lead "Sheep Thrills Plus" with a duration of 4 hours somewwhere in Turnagain Arm.

Meet at 6:30 pm at the Falls Creek trailhead on the Seward Highway. We will proceed up the Sheep Thrills Ridge via bushwhacking and scrambling to the highpoint known as Peak 3980. We will find a logical point of descent to the Falls Creek Trail and the return via the trailhead. Depending on presence and abundance of snow, traction devices may be desirable.

06/01/2017 – Bird on a Wire

Jesse Gobeli will lead "Bird on a Wire" with a duration of 3 hours somewwhere in Turnagain Arm.

Meet at 6:30 p.m. at the Bird Creek Trailhead at the end of Konikson Road.  We will cross Penguin Creek on our way to exploring the old mining roads and sights of the Bird Creek area.   We will visit the 1965 mustang fastback and the waterfalls of Bird Creek.   We will follow the creek upstream for a mile or two before bushwhacking back to the main trail and return.

05/11/2017 – Bird Flew

Jesse Gobeli will lead "Bird Flew" with a duration of 3 hours somewwhere in Turnagain Arm.

Meet at 6:30 pm in the Bird Ridge mega parking lot (not the small lot). We will start on the Bird Ridge Trail  but will quickly diverge to hidden paths leading to Bird Creek Falls. From there our route will proceed to and up a steep, scrambly, and possibly icy climb to Bird Ridge where we will descend via the main trail. This is a monumental classic.

04/20/2017 – Return to Black Mesa

Jesse Gobeli will lead "Return to Black Mesa" with a duration of 3.5 hours somewwhere in Turnagain Arm.

Meet at 6:30 p.m. at the gravel parking area that is just past the McHugh Creek trailhead on the Seward Highway.  We will ascend past the main trail and bushwhack to Black Mesa.  We will find a place to descend and return via the main trail.

03/30/2017 – Rays on Rainbow

Lee Helzer will lead "Rays on Rainbow" with a duration of 3.5 hours somewwhere in Turnagain Arm.

Meet at 6:30 in the Telephone Pole Rock parking area (on the left after Beluga Point) on the Seward Highway. We will head up to the Turnagain Arm Trail and then diverge onto a ridge heading towards the Black Mesa. From there we will continue with ice ax and micro spikes up the North Face of Rainbow Peak (hopefully) enjoying a beautiful sunset along the way.

From the summit we will take the standard route back to the Turnagain Arm Trail and return to the cars. There are out and back opportunities for those not desiring partaking in the full enchilada.

03/23/2017 – Mile 5

Jesse Gobeli will lead "Mile 5 " with a duration of 2.5 hours somewwhere in Turnagain Arm.

Meet at 6:30 p.m. at the Telephone Pole Rock parking area just past Beluga Point.   We will take a tour of the crags and prominences on both sides of the Turnagain Arm trail completing a circle route back to the start.

03/09/2017 – Fingertip

Jesse Gobeli will lead "Fingertip" with a duration of 2.5 hours somewwhere in Turnagain Arm.

Meet at 6:30 p.m. at the Rainbow trailhead.   This route will delight the bushwhack enthusiasts.  We will ascend through the woods and along Rainbow Creek until we reach the tip of the “Finger”.  Expect deep snow, thick devil’s club, steep ravines, numerous downed trees and other miscellaneous obstacles.  Depending on the swiftness of our progress, we may continue exploring towards the headwaters of Rainbow Creek 2000 feet above.  One highlight of the trip will be a visit to a stately old-growth hemlock forest.
