Ring out, wild bells, to the wild sky,The flying cloud, the frosty lightThe year is dying in the night;Ring out, wild bells, and let him die.Ring out the old, ring in the new,Ring, happy bells, across the snow:The year is going, let him go;Ring out the false, ring in the true. Alfred, Lord Tennyson
Jesse Gobeli will lead "Point 3655" with an estimated duration of 3 hours.
Meet at 9:00 a.m. at the Bird Creek parking area off of Konikson Road. (Note earlier time than usual). This is a new Epic route to bring in the new year. We will head out on the main trail, and explore a new route to the top of the ridge on the north side of Penguin Creek valley. This route will have a little of everything: dark spruce forest and alder bushwhacking, challenging route-finding, and icy ridge scrambling. Bring ice axe and microspikes.
Post Report
Three intrepid Epic’ers completed the inaugural 2015 epic. Starting out on an ice-slick trail through the fog, we reached the base of the ridge and began climbing through conifer forests with sporadic samplings of devils club and alder thickets. Soon we climbed out through rocky outcrops to the snow covered ridge proper, climbing 3400 feet up and out of the fog to a wind blasted summit and sensational viewing across the Penguin Creek and Bird Creek drainages. The route has been named “Dicky Bird”, by RLD. 4 hrs, 21 minutes, 7.1 miles.
